The moviest festival of them all
I’ll always remember the first time I attended the Maui Film Festival. There I was, sitting on a blanket next to a pretty girl. We were on a Wailea golf course, and the clouds lazily covered and uncovered the moon. And way in front of us and a few hundred other people, the Owens brothers chewed their way through some flick that didn’t actually end up getting released for another two years. It was great.
There are a lot of movie festivals out there, but Maui’s is different. Started by Barry and Stella Rivers in 2000, the Maui Film Festival brings fantastic feature films, riveting documentaries, hilarious shorts, glamorous stars and Hollywood glitz to our island. From June 11 to 15, Maui is transformed into the world’s movie wonderland.
You know the drill: big pictures under the stars at the Celestial Cinema (feel free to take your own beach chair, and now it’s got “enhanced” Dolby Digital quality sound!), more thought-provoking features and documentaries at the MACC and Digital Skydome and some free flicks on Wailea Beach. So what are you waiting for?
