The 16th annual Paddle for Hunger raised $8,000 on Thanksgiving Day, which will provide nearly 34,000 meals for needy families in Maui County. The funds raised by 264 participants facilitated the donation of more than 1,000 pounds of food to Maui Food Bank.
This year’s event, organized by Hawaiian Paddle Sports, featured untimed “races,” a silent auction, door prizes and a pre-event food drive at Nalu’s.
The $8,000 and 1,050 pounds of food that were raised for Maui Food Bank broke all previous records, with enough food to provide 33,400 meals for those in need.
“We are completely blown away with the success of this year’s Paddle For Hunger, and extend a huge mahalo to the Maui community for their support,” said Marlene Rice, development director for Maui Food Bank. “It is because of events like Paddle For Hunger and the generous spirit of individuals and companies like Hawaiian Paddle Sports we are able to fulfill our mission of helping the hungry in Maui County.”
Paddle For Hunger is organized by Hawaiian Paddle Sports as part of its Mālama Maui community give back program. To learn more, visit HawaiianPaddleSports.com/Malama-Maui.
