And now, we present the year in MauiTime hate letters. Well, excerpts of hate letters, to be exact. As we’ve done in the past, here are the choices examples of vitriol, criticism, negativity and just plain meanness that we’ve run in our Feedback section, all strung together into one long paragraph of uninterrupted, unmitigated, undeniable anger. We do this for a simple reason: it is fun. No one wants to read accolades, right? But hate letters, especially when personal and insulting, are much more fun. Enjoy!
My God, it’s like the MT staff got wasted on eggnog at the last moment and barely managed to coherently compile the article!… At best, it’s a fluff piece that nobody will take seriously… I would much rather see you use your voice for education over sensationalizing half-truths, rumors and lies… Your cover photo and inside photo is pretty tasteless. Mind Body Spirit on this isle is so much more than two haole girls in a sexual/spiritual “artistic” pose taken by a mainland douche girl. Very disappointing to see MauiTime stoop so low… It is disgusting. It is pornography… I’d like to let you know that your January 26, 2012 front cover page is very offending and distasteful, un-tasty and just weird… You shouldn’t have the word “Maui” on your newspaper if you’re going to do that kind of stuff… Contrary to MauiTime’s heretical accusations, my support for HB 2742 has nothing to do with “hidden agendas and secret lobbying,” or an aversion to quorum requirements or properly noticed agendas… So Anthony wants to be snooty about hostess bars? Please watch your attitude… It would be nice to have people who are a bit more informed and less juvenile in their presentation cover someone of the caliber of David Icke. This was painful to read and full of misinformation… Why do you pick on Oprah?… You think she’s gonna read your trash and give? You have only hurt our island with your words… But seriously, though, keep your petty asinine ridiculous little opinions to yourself, don’t embarrass us all by making it seem like all of Maui is backing you up… Don’t cry for me Pignataro!… Your text seemed to imply that breasts are like mountains. I can only venture a guess that the copy was written by a man… I am appalled that your newspaper would list Big Beach as the “Best Swimming Beach”… In any case (pun intended), luckily this election is near an end, since Mr. Pignataro has apparently been unable to write about anything other than how Ed Case is a non-entity in the race. Unfortunately, his near obsession with doing so suggests exactly the opposite… We can continue to focus on a time period where things weren’t working, as the MauiTime article does, or we can choose instead to celebrate change and success… You ought to be ashamed of your one-sided letters to the editor article. Must have taken all of three minutes to write the intro and avoid any other complications associated with such skillful editorial work. Be a man, state your agenda at the beginning of your article… Best to keep your skills where they belong. Isolated in the Pacific Ocean. I respected the MauiTime. No more… [T]he Oct. 4, 2012 cover photo was extreme offensive. How sad that MauiTime would parody the famous Iwo Jima Memorial honoring fallen Marines. Not even MauiTime can spin this cover photo to be anything but what it is, an attempt to put the LGBTQ on equal footing with the tens of thousands of brave Americans who have fought and made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us, including LGBTQ… Is there a reason why the cover photo is one big sausage fest?… Your article contained some meaningful information, but was overshadowed by your insensitivity, which came off as arrogant… Do you actually read and investigate both sides of a story, or do you just “wing it?”
