[Ed. note: the following letters are in response to our Aug. 15, 2013 cover story “UH Professor Richard Zeebe Says Climate Change Is More Severe Than We Thought”]
Thank you for a good, mostly heartfelt article on climate change. You obviously know we must do something. But then, I don’t know why Maui Time Weekly bothers with these and past Rob Parsons articles on climate change, environmental destruction, etc… only to be followed up by the photos in your ads about the leading cause of our environmental problems.
The abusive and dirty animal industry and the transportation of those animals are killing the planet. Dead pigs, chickens, fish, cows and alcohol are what you are about. Keeping the population unhealthy, drunk and not using their brains and they’ll spend less time thinking and spend more money on healthcare and hospitals. MauiTime Weekly is no different than Exxon/Mobil, BP, McDonald’s, Monsanto and Fatburger. You’re all there to make a living at the cost of the planet. By the way, thanks for the great reporting on Fatburger’s anniversary a few weeks ago. That was “really” important. A more important space filler than, let’s say, clean water for us to drink. Oh, I forgot they pay for ads, too.
I’m not a scientist and I can’t prove to you that this climate change is all man-made, but, I will say that no matter what the realities of climate change are, we owe it to our kids and future generations to take care of the planet. The waste and excretions from animals agriculture is killing our natural resources. In the meantime, MauiTime Weekly keeps supporting everything that causes environmental harm. I hope you can sleep well.
You’re also part of the Association of Alternative News Media and Alternative Weekly Network. What a joke. There was a time when there were real alternative newsweeklies that reported things important to people. You are not that.

Thanks for the climate change cover story. Just wanted to point out that over half of all petroleum used in the USA is used to produce animal based foods for human consumption. If we all became vegans the global warming issue would be cut in half. We need to realize that our personal choices make huge differences. Furthermore, over 100,000 animals are killed every minute of every day.
That’s a lot of dead animals!
