How many years experience in the industry?
4 years
What got you started in the spa, salon or wellness industry? When was this?
I unexpectedly fell into the spa industry in 2009 but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I can truly say I found my niche.
Please give me one fitness tip:
Everyone has busy schedules but it’s important to make the time to exercise. Find something you enjoy doing that gets your body moving and do that for 20-30 minutes 2 to 3 times a week.
What is your personal favorite spa or salon therapy and where and when you indulge in it.
I absolutely love getting my nails done. My personal favorite is the Maui Lavender Manicure and Pedicure that Spa Moana offers. Honey and lavender from Maui are combined with a hot-stone massage complete with aromatherapy paraffin treatment. It’s so luxurious! We are Maui’s only ocean front spa, literally just steps away from the ocean. Growing up in Hawaii, sometimes we take things for granted but when I make time in my busy schedule to sit in our ocean front salon with the gorgeous view, it reminds me how lucky I am to live here. I try to treat myself at least every 4 to 6 weeks.
Best skin advice, spa or salon treatment and fave product for a 20 something:
What you do to your skin now will determine how you are going to feel and look as you get order. In your 20’s sunscreen is your best friend. I would recommend using sunscreen when you are out in the sun longer than 10 minutes. Most of our sun damage happens before we are 25 years old but it takes decades for the physical damage, loss of elasticity, age spots (aka hyper-pigmentation), and fine lines to show up. Using a Vitamin C moisturizer like Epicuren Vitamin C Complex or Ilike Rosehip Whipped Moisturizers is two of my favorite results driven products. It’s very potent, effective, and most importantly light in texture. You can apply Vitamin C in the daytime-when we are most exposed to free radical damage and goes will under your makeup.
Best skin advice, spa or salon treatment and fave product for a 30 (the new 20):
Consistency is the key for good skin in your 3o’s. By now most have families and/or careers, life is hectic, busy, and full from morning to night, but taking care of ourselves is very important. We tend to make a lot of excuses, but make it a priority to stay consistent in cleansing nightly, exfoliating once or twice a week, and moisturize morning and night. Keeping it simple but remember you have to be consistent. This is the time to introduce yourself to facials especially if you never had one. The benefits to your skin are amazing and your will see results instantaneously. My favorite product is an anti aging serum- for night time repair. Ilike has a Q10 Serum that is insanely awesome for night repair.
Best skin advice, spa or salon treatment and fave product for a 40 something (I know we stopped counting a decade ago):
I find that this age bracket can be the most critical and fine lines are starting to show. I think it’s important to embrace this decade with kindness and a little humor too. This is the time to start a treatment plan. I recommend purchasing a series of 6 facial treatments (spa’s or salon’s typically give you a discount for a series). Pre-purchasing will also force you to keep your commitment and use your treatments within a specific time period since they are already bought and paid for. You want to look for products and treatments that offer cell regenerating or renewal treatments such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, or enzymatic options.
Best skin advice, spa or salon treatment and fave product for a 50 and up:
By this time in a woman’s life she has pretty much seen it all, used it all and she knows what she likes and dislikes. My hope is that she really is giving back to herself, receiving manicures and pedicures on a regular basis and treating herself to quarterly facials and massages (every 3 months). At this point it is important for the overall health of the person, not just the skin. Regular exercise is also part of a healthy skincare routine. Any damage from the younger years is now visible. My favorite product that helps lighten pigmentation safely and gives the skin the strength it needs is Epicuren’s Alpha Lipoic Omega Serum. It does everything!
Please name your most popular retail item and what it does.
Our signature Coco Mango Body Lotion is our number one retail item. This light scent is refreshing and very moisturizing. More importantly is allows our guests to take a piece of Maui back home with them and every time they use it, it reminds them of Maui. We receive year around online orders for this product and we can barely keep it on our shelves.
Do you have a locally made product? Please describe it.
Ola on the Big Island of Hawaii creates some of the most indigenous and locally made body care products available. A family business that commits itself to making naturally and organic products with ingredients found in the tropics. One of our favorites which we use in our body treatments and pedicures is the Passion Fruit Citrus. It smells like Liliko’i and is very popular among our guests.
