JOEL HEINZ- ARTIST IN RESIDENCE- Sun, Jun 8. Joel began painting with no formal art training other than what he was able to pick up in school, from associating with other artists and from the joys of experimentation and discovery. When he painted the sea and all the delightful things therein, it brought him peace; when he dabbled in Egyptian art, it developed his technique for detailed art and led to his success as an artist today. He has since gained a greater appreciation for the Hawaiian culture, and is particularly intrigued by ancient designs on tapa cloth and by Hawaiian petroglyphs. Joel now combines these two cultural icons, creating acrylic paintings of ancient Hawaiian imagery on tapa cloth. (Also, June 25th). 1-3pm. Maui Hands Galleries. RICHARD DIGIACAMO-ARTIST IN RESIDENCE-Sun, Jun 8. Richard is an accomplished artist who is known for his innovative approach to coloration. For more than 35 years, he has worked with celebrities, noted interior designers and leading institutions. His work has earned numerous awards of excellence, has been displayed regularly on television and has been featured on radio. Transplanted to Maui, Hawaii in 2010, Richard was ascended to a new level of artistic ability with his newly-created metal fused art. Created by the etching of aluminum panels and color, and fused with various techniques, his technique calls for many coats of clear seals, applied to create depth and movement. Every Sunday in June.
