BEST STATE OFFICIAL
governor linda lingle
Back in the 2002 governor’s race Linda Lingle campaigned against the Democratic cronies that packed the Honolulu state government. She won that race, but then wasted no time bringing in her own pals when she took over the governor’s mansion. That’s Governor Linda Lingle. In a state that employs Kaho’olawe Island Reserve Commission executive director Sol Kaho’ohalahala and open government advocate/state Senator Les Ihara, Jr. (D, 9th District), you pick Lingle. You’ve got to be frickin’ kidding. You guys read this paper, right? You see the reporting we do? Lingle is, well, your typical, run-of-the-mill, ambitious politician who says all the right things about accountability and integrity but then acts like just about every other elected official around.
runner-up: state senator j. kalani english (d, 6th district) (ap)
