Da kine
Definately one of the most useful words out there, “da kine” received the most votes, next to “aloha”, “wat, boddah you?”, “dis ain’t da mainland”, “malama pono”, “what, like beef?”, “shaka” and Uncle Boy’s “if things aren’t going right, take it to the left.”
Just to give them all fair play, here’s s’more: “got aloha?”, “shoots, bra!”, “try wait…”, “we go grind”, “wasabe!”, “howzit”, “how you stay?”, “whatevah”, “no Hawaiians, no aloha”, and of course, “suck ‘em up!”.
Best Reason Maui Is
No Ka Oi
The people!
Hard to pick a winner on this one, as most entries were all completely different, but a big chunk of them agreed that our greatest natural resource on Maui is us, the people. There were quite a few votes for this particular magazine, but me thinks it was plot to kiss a little rear end and win the trip prize! Thanks to all, and I leave you with a few choice answers.
“Whales cross the Pacific Ocean to hang out here”, “Aloha spirit lives”, “Look around you!”, “sunsets”, “It’s all the Hawaiian islands in one”, “rainbows, rainbows, rainbows”, “Hana”, “sun, surf, the earth and good friends”, “positive energy”, “South Maui kama`aina aloha at rush hour”, “everybody is my friend”, and of course, “in bed”.
Mahalo Maui!
